The team races were tight at the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championships, with Marlborough winning by just 7 points on the girls’ side and Nipomo by 13.5 on the boys’ side.
One of the standout swims came from Thomas Finello of Viewpoint, as he pulled ahead of Poly-Riverside with a stellar 19.92 split on the end of Viewpoint’s 200 free relay. Finello won big in both sprint free races, going 20.43 to take the 50 and 45.09 to take the 100. He also added a 44.64 anchor leg on Viewpoint’s 7th place 400 free relay.
Nick Ding, a senior from Yorba Linda, took home two wins as well. Ding was first to the wall in the 200 IM (1:50.17) as well as the 100 fly (49.21). He was also 22.19 swimming fly on Yorba Linda’s 3rd place 200 medley relay.
La Serna’s Sean Ward was the dominant winner in the 100 breast, going 56.16 to finish more than 2.5 seconds ahead of the next-best competitor. Ward was far and away the quickest breast leg in the 200 medley relay finals, splitting an impressive 25.10 as La Serna won the relay.
Emma Davidson, a Yorba Linda junior, swept the sprint free races on the girls’ side. Davidson was 23.30 to take the 50 and then 50.90 to win the 100. Adding a win in the 200 IM was Poly-Pasadena senior Susannah Laster, who was 2:03.46 to win by almost five full seconds.
The Crossroads girls took control of both free relays, winning both. 1:38.03 in the 200 and 3:34.88 in the 400, they were anchored by senior Clare Larsen in both. Larsen was 23.78 to anchor the 200 and 51.94 to anchor the 400.
