The Texas A&M women swept all 16 events in their dual meet with SMU on Friday. The Aggies had 4 swimmers complete a successful individual double, including Sydney Pickrem (200 back, 400 IM), Beryl Gastaldello (50 free, 100 free), Sarah Gibson (100 fly, 200 fly), and Sycerika McMahon (500 free, 1000 free).
Reigning SEC 100 fly champ Gibson secured the win in her signature race, dropping a 54.72 to outswim SMU’s Erin Trahan (55.31). Gibson swept the butterflies at the meet, as she’d also won the 200 fly by body lengths with her 1:59.98.
Teammate Gastaldello is also an SEC butterfly champion, but took on the sprint freestyles this time around and opted out of the 100 fly. Gastaldello led the Aggies to a sweep of the top 4 in the 50 free, slocking in at 22.35 ahead of Kristin Malone (23.18). She returned to the pool for the 100 free, picking up another victory in 50.30 to outpace SMU’s Vicky Cunningham (50.89).

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 7-ranked Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team swept SMU on Friday and will face SEC rival LSU on Senior Day at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
The Aggies improved to 6-1 in dual meet action with a 173-109 win over the Mustangs while sweeping all 16 events. The Aggies return to the pool on Saturday for Senior Day against LSU when they honor eight seniors:

The Aggies opened and closed the meet with relay wins. The foursome of junior Béryl Gastaldello, junior Jorie Caneta, senior Sarah Gibson and sophomore Claire Rasmus opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley with a time of 3:39.53, and the group of redshirt freshman Raena Eldridge, freshman Sara Metszch, senior Sycerika McMahon and sophomore Lexie Lupton touched first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:33.97 to end the day.
Texas A&M received a pair of individual wins from five Aggies – McMahon in the 500 free (4:50.14) and 1,000 free (9:51.27), Gibson in the 100 butterfly (54.72) and 200 butterfly (1:59.98), Gastaldello in the 50 free (22.35) and 100 free (50.30), sophomore Sydney Pickrem in the 200 backstroke (1:58.41) and 400 IM (4:12.51) and senior Zoe Alaniz in the one-meter dive (281.70) and the three-meter dive (311.25).
Other Aggies tallying wins were freshman Katie Portz in the 200 free (1:48.99), junior Lisa Bratton in the 100 back (54.66), Caneta in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.73) and senior Ashley McGregor in the 200 breast (2:13.20).

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women’s swimming and diving team fell to No. 8 Texas A&M at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium on Friday afternoon in College Station. With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 3-1 in dual action this season, while the Aggies improve to 6-1.
Senior Vicky Cunningham and freshman Erin Trahan led the Mustang swimmers each posting runner-up performances in their respective events. Cunningham touched second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.89, while Trahan registered a time of 55.31 for second in the 100-yard butterfly.
Other top three performances were turned in by senior Anna Cheesbrough, who was third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.15, and junior Matea Samardzic, who finished the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.63 for third.
The Mustangs earned their highest relay placement in the 200-yard freestyle, closing out the day with a time of 1:35.79. The time from Hannah Rogers, Cunningham, Trahan and Adrienn Santa was good for fourth place.
Sophomore Brooke Pospichal led SMU divers with a second-place finish on 1 meter (251.64), and a third-place finish on 3 meter (257.48). Senior Lauren Lamb also represented the Mustangs finishing fourth on both boards.
Overall, SMU registered 109 total points to the Aggies’ 173.
The Mustangs are back in action Feb. 3 when they travel to Denton, Texas, to take on the University of North Texas at the Pohl Recreation Center and PEB Natatorium. On Feb. 4, the Ponies are slated to host a pre-conference time trial event in Southlake, Texas, at 2 p.m. The Feb. 4 event will serve as senior day for the program.
