Tennessee Scores 2022 Commitment from Ryan Williams

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ryan Williams announced that he will be joining the University of Tennessee swim team next fall. Williams is from Tahoe City, California. He currently swims for the Sierra Marlins Swim Team and Truckee High School.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Tennessee. I want to thank God, my family, coaches, teammates, and all the people that helped me make this dream come true. Go Vols! 🍊”

Williams competed in four events at the Winter Junior Championships-West meet in Austin, Texas. At the meet he posted times in the 50 free (21.27), 100 breast (56.28), 100 fly (49.30), and 200 IM (1:51.87). His time in the breast, fly, and IM were lifetime bests. He added a new best in the 50 free (20.72) while leading off a relay. In a time trial of the 100 fly he bested his time again, touching in 48.69.

Last March, Williams qualified for multiple event finals at the ISCA International Senior Cup. Racing in the long course pool, he qualified for the A-final of the 50 back (28.38), 50 breast (30.65), and 100 breast (1:08.92).

When he arrives on campus this fall, Williams will provide depth in many events for the Vols. So far this season, his time in the 100 fly would rank him as the team’s 7th fastest performer, while his 200 back would rank 5th His time’s also put him close to scoring range at the SEC Championship meet. In 2021, it took a time of 47.58 to earn a second swim in the 100 fly and 48.04 in the 100 back.

The Vol’s top performers in the 100 fly this year, Kayky Mota and Luke Brice, are both seniors, freshman Jordan Crooks has already been 47.12 in the event in his first year of full-time short course yards racing. Crooks is a multiple-time Cayman Islands national champion and represented his country at 2019 World Championships.

In December, SwimSwam had the Tennessee men ranked as the 15th best team in the country this season. The team is predicted to finish 25th at the NCAA Championships as well, based on predictions using times from mid-season meets.

Joining Williams in the class of 2026 at Tennessee will be Guilherme Caribe, Martin Espernberger, Nick Simons, and Pep Arnwine. Like Williams, Espernberger will likely be a contributor in the 100 fly for the Vols, having already been 47.82 in the event.
