Team USA Earns First Junior Pan American Diving Team Championship Since 2011

Sunday, October 10, marked the last day of the UANA Junior Pan American Diving Championships competition, where 7 USA divers earned medals.

The competition started with simultaneous events for the boy’s D 1-meter and the girl’s D platform events. For the boy’s D 1-meter competition Ian Nava Gutierrez (MEX) was named Champion with a score of 239.95. The silver medal went to Delaney Hsu (USA) with a total score of 222.70, and fellow countryman Cristiano Garcia earned the bronze medal with a 217.70 score. Following the boy’s event, we saw three divers medal for the girl’s D platform event. Abigail Gonzalez Roel (MEX) placed 1st on the platform with a total score of 239.80. 2nd place was awarded to ElliReese Niday (USA) with a total score of 218.75, and 3rd place went to Jennifer Lozano (MEX) with a total score of 213.90.

The final day of the UANA Junior Pan American Diving Championships saw more simultaneous events happening, this time for the girl’s C 3-meter and boy’s C 1-meter. When it came to the girl’s C 3-meter competition, Ruth Elisa Páez (MEX) was crowned Champion with a total score of 314.00. A silver medal was awarded to Juliet Radich (USA) with a total score of 287.55, and a bronze medal went to Lila Stewart (CAN) with a total score of 278.25. The last morning session ended with the boy’s C 1-meter, where Gabriel Vázquez Cio (MEX) was named Champion with a total score of 357.85. The silver medal went to Dean Dacoulis-Calfacacos (CAN) with a total score of 331.60, and the last boy’s C medal went to Luc Goertzen (CAN) with a total score of 330.35.

2021 UANA Junior Pan American Diving Championships Sunday afternoon competitions started with the boy’s B 3-meter competition. Tomas Tamayo Meneses (COL) earned the gold medal for the event with a total score of 444.65. The silver medal was earned by Joshua Hedberg (USA) with a total score of 432.05, and the bronze medal went to Alejandro Flores Jimenez (MEX) with a total score of 418.50. Individual competition for the UANA Junior Pan American Diving Championships ended with the boy’s A platform event. Matt Cullen (CAN) was named Champion with a total score of 528.00. The silver medal was earned by Benjamin Tessier (USA) with a total score of 495.35, and the bronze medal went to fellow countryman Maxwell Weinrich with a total score of 469.20.

The final competition in the four-day meet saw the girl’s A/B 3-meter synchro earn medals. Sonya Palkhivala (CAN) / Julianne Boisvert (CAN) received a gold medal with a final score of 250.23. Tiffany Brawn Lozada (COL) / Mariana Osorio (COL) earned a silver medal with a score of 232.05, and the bronze medal was awarded to Natalia Bedolla (MEX) / Jecza López López (MEX) with a total score of 222.72.

At the end of the competition, Overall Points awards were presented to the top diver in each age group as well as to the top team overall.

Daryn Wright (USA) and Max Weinrich (USA) took the A Group awards, Ana Ricci (PER) and Tomas Tamayo Meneses (COL) won the B group, Lila Stewart (CAN) and Gabriel Vazquez Cio (MEX) won the C Group, Mexican sisters Mia Cueva Lobato and Lia Cueva Lobato tied for the Girls D title while teammate Ian Nava Gutierrez took the Boys.

Team USA took the overall Team Championship for the first time since 2011, earning over 100 points over second place Mexico.
