TCU Sweeps UT Permian Basin to Open 2019-20 Season

FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU swimming and diving won its first dual meet of the season, besting UT Permian Basin. The men won, 174.5-109.5, while the women won, 224-67.

Starting Strong

The Horned Frogs have bested the Falcons in their past six home openers and own a 7-0 record dating back to 2012. A TCU swimmer won every event minus the men’s 100 breast.

NCAA Zone Cuts

Izzy Ashdown and Faith Harms-Zacharias made NCAA Zone cuts in 3-meter diving. Ashdown registered a 301.40 while Harms-Zacharias scored a 284.20.

Last season, Ashdown and Connie Deighton became the first Horned Frogs to reach NCAA Zones since the 2014-15 season.

Freshman Firsts 

A multitude of freshman made their TCU debut in the 2019-20 home opener. Seven took home first place in an individual event.

50 breast: Janis Silins (26.39)

50 fly: Marlene Hirschberg (26.35)

50 fly: Ethan Autry (23.70)

100 back: Lisa Johnson (57.79)

100 fly: Ethan Autry (53.77)

100 free: Lucia Simovicova (53.54)

100 free: Piotr Sadlowski  (47.50)

100 IM: Rasmus Pederson (53.36)

200 IM: Piotr Sadlowski (1:56.57)

Two’s Better Than One

The trio of Noah Cumby, Autry and Sadlowski all won two individual events.

Cumby won the 50 (25.01) and 100 back (51.97), Autry took the 50 and 100 fly and Sadlowski finished first in the 100 free and 200 IM.

What’s Better Than Two? Three

Junior Katelyn Kenchel won the 50 back (27.56) and the 100 (59.80) and 200 IM (2:11:14).

Next Up

TCU travels to Miami, Fla., for the FIU Classic on Oct. 4-5.
