TCU Set To Host # 3/4 Texas For Senior Day

The TCU men’s and women’s swimming and diving team will host the No. 3/4 Texas Longhorns in a Big 12 contest at the University Recreation Center at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3. Senior day presentations will begin at 3:45 p.m.

“I’m excited for our team to race against one of the top swimming programs in the country,” head coach Richard Sybesma said. “I’m also proud of our senior class and excited to honor them and their families in their final home meet. I want to thank them for their hard work and leadership throughout their four years at TCU.”

Last Time Out
The men’s last outing was against West Virginia, and it was highlighted by freshman Radu Duican’s performance. The Romania native won three events. Duican’s first win came in the 200 medley relay with junior Jakub Swierczynksi, junior Matt Spallas and senior Garrett Hills combining for the win at 1:33.40. Duican went on to top the podium again in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.21 before rounding out the day with a win in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:52.86.

The women are returning to the pool after hosting North Texas last week. Sophomore Maddie Ibrahim, junior Devin Newton, freshman Claire Munster and sophomore Micaela Roemer opened the meet against North Texas with a first-place time of 1:46.06 in the 200-yard medley relay. Roemer went on to place second in the 100-yard butterfly at 58.03 and third in the 100-yard freestyle at 53.94.

Freshman Katie Woods continued to have a successful first season in Purple and White, as she took home gold in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:33.19. Senior Meagan Thompson followed in third at 10:45.66. Woods also went on to place third in the 500-yard freestyle behind a time of 5:13.18.

Four Frogs took home silver medal times after a strong start by TCU. Freshman Bailey Flynn had a great final leg of the 200-yard freestyle, nearly catching North Texas in first. Flynn finished in second at 2:07.62. Freshman Elise Forzley took home second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.79. Senior Ashley Dyke followed that up with a second-place performance of her own in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.54, and sophomore Catherine Maxey took home second in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:08.72.

Champions On The Horizon
The Horned Frogs will look to gain extra experience against the Longhorns  before the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships on Feb. 22-25 in Austin.

Texas is ranked 3/4 now? I didn’t realize we went into fractions.
