SwimMAC’s Sophie Lindner Verbally Commits to Tar Heels

Sophie Lindner, a rising senior at Covenant Day School in Matthews, North Carolina, has given a verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina for the 2018-19 season.

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Thank you to all my coaches, friends, and family who have helped me reach this point. Go Heels!!”

Lindner is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and a member of her school’s Beta Club, National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. She swims under coach Peter Verhoef at SwimMAC Carolina and was a member of the 15-16 girls’ foursome that broke the NAG record in the 800 free relay in December 2016. Lindner competing at 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the 100m fly and at 2017 U.S. Nationals and World Championship Trials in the 100m free, 100/200m back, and 50m fly. At 2016 Winter Juniors East she swam the 100/200 free, 100/200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

Lindner’s top SCY times include:

  • 200 back – 1:58.70
  • 100 back – 55.14
  • 200 free – 1:48.44
  • 100 free – 50.42
  • 100 fly – 54.27
  • 200 IM – 2:06.20

Lindner will join the UNC class of 2022 with Grace Countie, who has also verbally committed.
