Swim Job: Lynchburg YMCA seeks Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming / Head Site Coach

Lynchburg Virginia. Lynchburg is located in Southwest Virginia , on the James River and situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are within 30 minutes of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail.

Team Name: Lynchburg YMCA Swim Team

Position: Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming/ Site Coach

Experience: Looking for an experienced age group coach with USAS experience. Candidate must be able to pass all coaching certifications for both USAS and YMCA swimming and diving.

Job description includes, but is not limited to: The candidate needs to have a knowledge of stroke mechanics and training progression. He/she must be capable of: writing and running workouts, assisting other site coaches as needed, managing Hy-tek database, attending meets, attending LSC meetings, keeping attendance records, managing swim team dues and meet fees, helping as meet director for home meets, producing meet reports for away meets. They need to be involved with swimmer recruitment and retention as well as parent education. The Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming will follow the YMCA philosophy of developing a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all while upholding and supporting the mission of the YMCA. The ideal candidate is an energetic, positive leader who is capable of being highly effective in an independent setting.


Lynchburg YMCA uses two YMCA sites during the short course season and uses the City of Lynchburg’s Miller Park Pool for 50 meter training during the summer long course season.

Salary and Benefits

Full employment and YMCA benefits, including health and retirement programs are offered. Salary $27,000.
