Swedish Swimming Federation Releases 2021-2024 Meet Calendar

The document, published on June 30, states that the purpose of the schedule is “to have a clear and clear planning with a firm content should be available to ensure a good long-term perspective.”

Meets included on the plan include the 2021 and 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the 2021, 2022, and 2024 Short Course World Championships, the 2022 and 2023 Long Course World Championships, the 2022 Youth Olympic Games, 2021 World University Games, the Stockholm Open, and the Swedish Grand Prix.

The Stockholm Open is the biggest domestic meet the country holds, acting as a qualifier for many of Sweden’s international meets. In the past, it has attracted foreign superstars such as Tomoe Hvas of Norway, Thomas Fraser-Holmes of Australia, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary and Danas Rapsys of Lithuania in addition to Swedish stars like Sarah Sjostrom and Michelle Coleman. In 2018, the Rutgers University swim team became the first American team to compete in the meet.

The 2020 edition of the meet was meant to serve as Sweden’s qualifier for the 2020 European LC Championships before they were cancelled.

At the 2019 World Championships, Sweden earned 5 medals courtesy of superstar Sarah Sjostrom. She also earned the country 3 medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and is expected to be a medal contender in 5 events in Tokyo.
