Stopkotte Faces New Fraud Allegations: This Time, It's Financial

Update 11/23: Charges have been filed against Stopkotte for theft. More details available here.

Ken Stopkotte, the much maligned coach who was nailed by USA-Swimming for submitting false times, is now in even bigger trouble. This time, it’s not with USA-Swimming; rather it is with the Fishers Police Department who are looking into Stopkotte’s records.

While looking into records surrounding Stopkotte’s times reporting, and subsequent resignation, the Hamilton Southeastern School district have found some irregularities that raised concerns about Stopkotte’s financial dealings. This apparently includes both the Fishers High School team as well as the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers that he coached. An accountant working with the police department is now digging through financial records and trying to track some unaccounted for funds.

Stopkotte received a 2-year USA-Swimming coaching ban, as well as a 5-year Indiana Swimming coaching ban in a settlement with the governing bodies.

Since that time, rumors have abound about issues Stopkotte has had while coaching with teams in other states, including the Cincinnati Marlins, although none of them have been officially verified.

If it is found that Stopkotte did, in fact abuse team or school district funds for personal or otherwise unauthorized uses, it is likely that USA-Swimming will come knocing again. This time, the consequences could be even worse, and a lifetime ban would not be out of the realm of possibilities.

He got caught breaking the laws and rules…so now he wants to act as if he is squeeky clean. He is a sad excuse for a human being and hopefully one day soon he eventually learns the “proper lesson” becuase getting caught cheating on his own swimmers times and stealing money (thousands) from his employer wasn’t enough to set this scroundral straight….strangly enough no mention of him or his antics on… Read more »
