Stefano Morini Named Italian Coach of the Year for 2nd-Straight Time

Stefano Morini was named the Italian Swimming Coach of the Year at the country’s Coaches Congress in Chianciano, according to the Italian Swimming Federation.

Morini was the original recipient of this award, named after the late Alberto Castagnetti, last season, and counts among his current charges Gabrielle Detti and Gregorio Paltrinieri.

Paltrinieri won the 2015 World Championship in the long course 1500 meter freestyle in Kazan, Russia this summer, and took silver in the 800 meter free. He also set European Records in both events, and in a year where the Italian men had only one other swimmer advance to an individual final and won just 5 medals total, his coach made for an obvious choice of this award.

Morini received 58% of the vote in the final ballot that was voted upon by both journalists and members of the Italian Federation.

While not currently her coach, Morini is also formerly the coach of Italy’s other medal winner from Kazan – Federical Pellegrini.
