USA Swimming has released psych sheets for next week’s Winter Nationals.

To kick things off, Mallory Comerford is entered as the top seed in the women’s 500 by over three seconds. She will also duke it out with Olivia Smoliga in both the 50 and 100 free, and is the top seed in the 200 free over Melanie Margalis by a wide margin. Comerford is also entered in the 100 fly, which she hasn’t swum in almost a year.

In addition to her signature 100 a 200 fly, Kelsi Worrell is entered in the 100 back and 100 free.

The men’s 200 IM will certainly be one of the more exciting events of the weekend. The top six spots feature Chase Kalisz, Ryan Murphy, Josh Prenot, Michael Andrew, and Reece Whitley, with the one-seed going to Mark Szaranek and his 1:40.67 from NCAAs last year. Kalisz is also entered in the 400 IM, 200 free, 200 fly, and 200 back. In addition to the IM, Murphy is slated to swim the 200 free, 100 back, and 200 back.

WhitleyAndrew, and Cody Miller are seeded 1-2-3 in the men’s 100 breast, followed by three other 52-low swimmers. In addition to the 200 IM and 100 and 200 breast, Whitley is entered in the 400 IM. Miller is also the three-seed in the 200 breast, and Andrew is also entered in the 50 free,  100 free, 100 fly, and a rare 200 breast.

In addition to his typical 50 and 100 free, Nathan Adrian is entered in the 200 free.

Lots of good juniors there as well, Claire Tuggle, Isabel Ivey, Erica Sullivan, Emma Muzzy, and Olivia Bray to name a few.

It would be cool to see Adam Peaty entered in the 100 & 200 yard breaststroke.

With his comparatively poor pullouts, wonder how dominant he would be SCY. No doubt he’d win, but it might be closer than in LCM.

Wonder if Reece Whitley is tapering for this meet? Can’t wait to see his swims!

I’m sure it’ll get fixed, but I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw Nathan Adrian is entered with a long course time of 1:36.5 for the 2free

He did a 1:33 at this meet a few years back. Recall he used to swim it in College, particularly his early years.

Adrian has been consistently 18+

Not sure MA is there yet. Could be a nice race

Maybe MA wins 100 br? Or Reece?

Surely MA’s 21.7 LCM translates to an 18 high. Only one guy (Dressel) was faster in the U.S. last summer.

I’m certain it translates to 18 high, just don’t think we’ll see it until spring. MA’s improvements havent been linear, and he’s been training more longer IM lately. I’m more interested in when his SCY 200 IM is gonna click.

I feel something big coming. 1:41 low seems doable. Still not sure he’ll be in peak shape right now. I’d love to be wrong. He’s the most exciting thing besides Dressel in American men’s swimming.

MA’s turns really slow him down in his 100 free long course which is one reason why his 50’s are so much stronger. But in SCY flip turns obviously can’t be avoided. Perhaps we will see an improvement…

Agree. He was sharp at Singapore a week or two ago beating his WJR in the 100 IM. I don’t expect Adrian to be 50 SCY sharp right now. He lost some flat-out speed this summer working on his back-half of the 100. Amazing that MA beat him in the 50 LCM free for #2 in the U.S.

It was definitely an off year for Nathan’s 50 but it was a good year to make some changes and not everything can be perfect all the time. The sprints are going to be very exciting in the next few years with veterans and up and comers throwing down in 2020

Is the 100 free American/US Open record a typo? It says 45.96 when Simone was 45.56 at NCAAs. I only remember her breaking 46 flat-start once.
