St. Bonaventure Heads To Akron For Zippy Invitational

The St. Bonaventure University women’s swimming and diving team will travel to Ohio to swim in the Akron Zippy Invite this weekend.

The three-day dual meet will have action Friday, Saturday and Sunday with prelims starting at 9:00 a.m. each day and finals at 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 4:00 p.m. Sunday. The dual meet will total 40 events and the top three teams will earn team awards after the conclusion of action Sunday evening.

The Bonnies last swam in the invite during the 2013-14 season, when they finished in fourth place with 1017.5 points, losing to Illinois State, Akron and Toledo.

At its last meet on Nov. 13, the Bonnies beat Canisius, 158-142, backed by the performances of junior Devon McFadden, who won the 100-backstroke (1:00.09), 200-backstroke (2:11.53), 100-butterfly (59.03) and was a member of the 400-medley relay (3:59.56).

Other first place finishes included junior Michaela Ryan in the 1000-freestyle (10:50.67), junior Alyssa Levac in the 100-breaststroke (1:06.76) and 200-IM (2:12.77), junior Maria Rocchi in the 200-breaststroke (2:26.73) and senior Emily Quinn in the 200-butterfly (2:11.91).

The invite will be the Bonnies final meet of the fall, as they will return to the pool on Jan. 14 when they travel to Binghamton.
