Sprinter Mary Kaitlyn McPherson Commits to Swim for Michigan State

Mary Kaitlyn McPherson of Indianapolis, Indiana has signed an NLI to swim at Michigan State University in 2018-19. She will join Claire Schenden, Lucy Schenden, Madeline Reilly, and Ryan Barlow in the Spartans’ class of 2022.

“I chose Michigan State University because of all the amazing opportunities there! I fell in love with the campus and was so impressed by the academics, coaching staff and the team! I am so thankful for my family, coaches and friends who have supported me throughout this entire process! So excited to be a Spartan!!”

McPherson is a senior at North Central High School, where she specializes in sprint freestyle. She also swims year-round with Washington Township Swim Club, and adds breaststroke and IM to her repertoire. At the 2017 IHSAA Girls’ Swimming/Diving Championship in February, she placed 17th in the 50 free (23.99) and 19th in the 100 free (52.60). She led off the runner-up 200 free relay (24.08) as well as the fifth-place 400 free relay (52.70). In club swimming, McPherson got her senior year off to a strong start by going best times in the 500 free, 100/200 breast, and 200/400 IM this fall.
