Abby Mele of Canonsburg, PA has verbally committed to in-state Duquesne University as a part of the Class of 2024.

Mele, a versatile sprint specialist, competes with Mount Lebanon Aquatic Club. This past summer, Mele swam at the 2019 LC TPIT Junior Olympic Championships, where she placed 5th in the 100 LCM breaststroke and 6th in the 200 LCM breatstroke. Mele also posted personal bests in those events as well as the 100 LCM freestyle at the meet. Majority of Mele’s best times came during the high school competition season. She attends Canon-McMillan High School and at the 2019 WPIAL 3A Championships, Mele placed 7th in the 100 butterfly (58.08) and 8th in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.28). Just one week later, Mele competed at the PIAA 3A Championships in the 100 breaststroke and butterfly, earning an 11th place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
The Duquesne Dukes are back-to-back A-1o Champions. Mele’s 100 breaststroke time would place her in consolation finals while her 100 butterfly time is just shy of final standings. She is set to contribute to the team as a freshman and will add depth to Duquesne’s sprint stroke events. Mele joins Florida native, Leah Reisker, in the Class of 2024.
