Sprint Freestyler Mary Arsenault Verbally Commits to UNCW

Georgia-based Mary Evan Arsenault has made her college decision, as she’s announced her verbal commitment to join the University of North Carolina Wilmington women next fall. Arsenault will be representing the Seahawks after she graduates from Walton High School at the end of this school year. Her current training base is with the Chattahoochee Gold Swim Club.

Last season, Arsenault qualified to compete in the 50 and 100 freestyles at the Georgia 6A High School State Championships. She narrowly missed the podium at that meet, finishing 4th in the 50 free. Arsenault then went on to compete at the 2016 NCSA Spring Junior Nationals, where she cracked the 53-second barrier in the 100 free to set her new personal best at 52.65.

Arsenault’s Top Times:

  • 50 free- 23.91
  • 100 free- 52.65
  • 200 free- 2:00.78
  • 100 fly- 1:00.19

With marginal improvements, Arsenault could have an immediate impact for the Seahawks at the CAA Championships. Her best time in the 50 free is within hundredths of what it took to score last season, and she’s just tenths shy in the 100 free as well.
