The South African Individual Olympic Qualifiers Following Day 6

SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS (SA OLYMPIC TRIALS)

Wayne Riddin contributed to this report.

Below is a roundup of all the Olympic qualifying times swam at the South African Olympic Trials going into the final day of competition. So far, Chad le Clos leads the South African men, with qualifying times in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 free.

Although the South African women have one final day to qualify competitors for the Olympic team, their best chances have come and gone. The closest call came earlier tonight when Tatjana Schoenmaker missed the 200 breaststroke cut by a heart-breaking one one-hundredth of a second. Tomorrow, Nathania van Niekerk will try to drop nearly a second from her prelims swim in the 200 backstroke (2:11.53) to hit the Olympic cut of 2:10.60.

The Paralympic competition has yielded far more male and female competitors than the Olympic competition, led by Alani Ferreira and Henri Herbst with three qualifying times apiece.
