Sophie Yendell, Freya Anderson Break British 50 Fly Age Records Again

2017 BRITISH SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Britain’s two budding female sprint stars, 15-year old Sophie Yendell and 16-year old Freya Anderson, have each re-broken their own British Age Records in the 50 meter fly on Wednesday. Both swimmers already held the records coming into the meet, and Yendell broke Tazmin Pugh’s old record in prelims, while Anderson tied her old best time in the morning session.

Yendell finished 2nd overall in the open category, swimming a 26.90 – .09 behind champion Charlotte Atkinson. That broke her own 15-year olds record of 26.99 swum in prelims, and is still the fastest time by any 16 & under – which she’ll have two more years to keep chasing and improving upon.

The time of the younger Yendell was actually faster than that of 16-year old Freya Anderson, but Anderson still cleared her own 16-year olds single age record of 27.12 by swimming 27.02 in the final. That was good enough for Anderson to take 5th.

Those time puts Lendell in 11th-place of all-time in the British Open age rankings (any age).
