SMU Men Host Final Home Meet Against Missouri State Saturday

The SMU men’s swimming and diving team hosts Missouri State in its final home dual meet of the season Saturday at 11 a.m. The event will stream live on PonyUp TV with results available on SMUMustangs.com, the Meet Mobile App and Dive Meets. It will be closed to the public.

In The Rankings
The Mustangs are ranked in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America’s (CSCAA) Division I Top 25 Poll for the second consecutive edition, holding at No. 25. The Mustangs split dual meets since the last rankings came out on Dec. 17, defeating UIW, 196-104, and falling to No. 4 Texas A&M.

In the CollegeSwimming Division I Championship Rankings, SMU sits at No. 16.

Scouting The Bears
Missouri State is 0-3 in dual action this season, falling at then-No.17 Mizzou to open 2020-21 and against Drury and Notre Dame.

Last Time Out
SMU won five events in a 170-130 loss to Texas A&M on Jan. 15.

The Mustangs picked up freestyle wins from Petar Bozhilov (1,000) and Justin Baker (50), and also closed the event with a win in the 200 free relay. Colin Feehery won the 200 IM.

In diving action, Dominic Hoefer led the way with a victory on 3 meter.

Making The Cut
Seven Mustangs have posted a total of 12 NCAA B cuts this season.

Four divers have achieved at least one NCAA C Zone score. Hardigree, Hoefer and Smithson have automatically qualified for the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships in March based on qualified scores posted on both boards prior to Dec. 31. The NCAA has recently updated Zone qualification standards for diving.

All-American Returners
The current roster returns CSCAA All-American Peter Smithson, who earned honors on 3 meter and platform in 2020, as well as six CSCAA Scholar All-Americans.

Smithson led the Mustangs as a first-team Scholar All-America selection, while Connor DalboDaniel ForndalDominic HoeferCaleb Rhodenbaugh and Brayden Rudd earned Honorable Mention accolades.

In The Pool And In the Classroom
SMU continues to excel in the classroom, earning CSCAA Scholar All-America honors this month. Teams were selected on the basis of their fall grade-point-average, and must have achieved a 3.0 GPA. The men finished the semester with a 3.26 average.

The Mustangs earned back-to-back CSCAA Scholar All-America honors last season, posting a 3.73 GPA in the spring, above the fall’s 3.28 mark, and 34 student-athletes were named to the conference all-academic team.

Looking Ahead
The Mustangs travel to No. 1 Texas Feb. 5 for their final dual meet of the 2020-21 season. Action begins at 12 p.m. with diving at 1 p.m.
