MALIBU, Calif. – The schedule for the 2019-20 Pepperdine women’s swim and dive team was released on Wednesday, as announced by second-year Head Coach Joe Spahn.
“I’m really excited for this schedule and the team we’ve got.” said Spahn. “I think we’re going to be able to go out and challenge some teams that we haven’t in the past. It will be great to travel up to Northern California and race against last year’s PCSC champion, Cal State East Bay, as well as UC Davis and San Diego State. Last year we didn’t get a winter invite so being able to have one this year we’ll be able to show our talent earlier on and get a good gut-check midway through.”
The Waves launch the season at the PCSC relays in La Mirada, Calif. on Oct. 4th, followed by two home meets against San Diego State on Oct. 10th and hosting the annual Malibu Invite Oct. 11-12. The Waves will then be on the road for three meets against San Diego State and Boise State (10/18), University of San Diego (10/19) and UC Davis, East Bay and San Diego State (11/1-2). They will then host Loyola Marymount at home on Nov. 8.
Pepperdine will host their first mid-season invitational, the Pepperdine Winter Invite, at East Los Angeles College on Nov. 22-24. This will serve as their final fall meet of 2019.
Returning to competition in January, the Waves will be home for a tri-meet against Colorado State and New Mexico on Jan. 4, before heading to the WCC Cup against LMU and USD. Pepperdine will conclude the regular season with a home meet, hosting Azusa Pacific on Jan. 25.
The Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships will be held Feb.12-15 at East Los Angeles College in Los Angeles, Calif. Following the conference championships, swimmers who qualify will compete at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships in Cleveland, Ohio on March 12-14. In total, the Waves will compete in 17 meets on the year.
“I’m excited to see what we can do this year at conference,” said Spahn. “Last year’s team coupled with a lot of determined young ladies is really going to feed into a strong team this year. We’re also hopeful to have even more individuals as well as relays compete at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship in March. Last year was a great experience taking our two breaststrokers and it will be exciting to get even more girls out there this year.”
