Singapore’s Lionel Khoo Lowers Own 200 Breaststroke National Record

While competing at the 48th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships this week, 21-year-old Lionel Khoo lowered his own national record in the men’s 200 LCM breaststroke, taking the mark into new territory. Entering the meet, Khoo held the previous record at 2:16.19, a time he set last year at the ASEAN University Games. But tonight, he ventured into the sub-2:16 realm for the first time, stopping the clock at 2:15.27 for gold. That also qualified Khoo to race the event at this year’s SEA Games.

Khoo already owns the 100m LCM breaststroke mark in the time of 1:02.26 he notched at this same meet last year. He is also the SCM national record holder across the 50m/100m/200m breaststroke, with the latter two events seeing their marks go down at the FINA World Cup stop in his home nation last October.

The Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships kicked off on March 14th and run through March 19th at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.
