Several German National Team members participate at 2018 Euro Meet

The German Swimming Federation (DSV) announced yesterday the 2018 national squads and published today the participants for the 2018 Euro Meet. 

The most successful German swimmers of 2017 are part of the so called “Olympic Squad”:  Lisa Graf, Philip Heintz, Franziska Hentke, Marco Koch, Sarah Köhler, Marius Kusch, Aliena Schmidtke, Christian vom Lehn, Florian Wellbrock und Damian Wierling

Five of them are set to compete in Luxemburg: Lisa Graf, Franziska Hentke, Florian Wellbrock, Damian Wierling and Marco Koch (Koch will start for his German swim club). 

The DSV has named five squads for the upcoming 2018 season, the “Olympic squad” with 10 athletes, the “Perspective Squad” containing 29 swimmers, the “Complementary Squad” with 6 members, and two “Junior Squads” with 26 in Team 1 and 106 athletes in Team 2.

Also from these squads, many swimmers will attend the Euro Meet: Youngsters like Celine Rieder, Julia Mrozinski, Rosalie Kleyboldt, Anna Kroniger, Lucie Kühn, Malaika Schneider and Maialen Rohrbach but also experienced swimmers like Jessica Steiger. 

On the men’s side, the German team is represented by Florian Wellbrock, Damian Wierling, Moritz Brandt, Jacob Heidtmann, Ramon Klenz, Alexander Kunert, Maximilian Pilger, Fabian Schwingenschlögl, Poul Zellmann, Björn Kammann, Rafael Miroslaw, Paul Reither, Marius Zobel.

Wierling and Zellmann participated at the 2017 World Championships and Wierling and Schwingenschloegel represented Germany at the 2017 SC European Championships. Damian Wierling is the German record holder in the 50m freestyle with a time of 21,81 and Fabian Schwingenschloegl is the first German swimmer who stayed under 26 seconds on the 50m breaststroke (SC, 25,99).

The Euro Meet marks the first big international swim meet in the German qualification period for the 2018 European Championships and Junior European Championships.

German swimmers must fullfill the nomination standards between January 22nd and April 29th.
