South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall men’s swimming & diving team took both relay races and won nine individual events en route to a sweep of Monmouth and Montclair State in dual meet action Friday evening at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. The Pirates topped the Hawks, 174.5-107.5, and defeated the Red Hawks, 230-53.

Sophomore Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) was the headliner for the Pirates on the night, winning the 1000 freestyle by nearly 21 seconds (9:45.44) and then coming back to win the 100 freestyle (47.21) and swimming anchor for the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:26.44). His 1000 time surpassed his best mark last year (9:55.57).

Junior Liam Cosgove (Sea Girt, N.J.) and freshman Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.) were part of both relay winners, swimming the 400 medley relay alongside freshman Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.) and senior Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.) and then swimming the 200 freestyle relay with LaClair and senior Sam Hendrix (Hillsborough, N.J.). Cosgrove also took home first in the 200 freestyle.

Other winners included sophomore Kyle Haflich (Fishers, Ind.) taking the 200 butterfly in 1:58.20, Pantano claiming the 200 backstroke in 1:53.46, sophomore Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.) winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.67, senior Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) earning the victory in the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.31 and senior Tim Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.

The Seton Hall women’s swimming & diving team won 11 individual events and swept the two relay races in dominant wins over Monmouth and Montclair State Friday evening at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. The Pirates topped the Hawks, 205-82, and defeated the Red Hawks, 236-52.

Freshman Savannah Kennedy (Fishers, Ind.) was the big winner for the Pirates in the meet as she claimed three of The Hall’s 11 individual race wins. She won the 200 butterfly in 2:16.83, won the 200 backstroke in 2:12.18 and then took the 400 IM by four seconds with a time of 4:35.53.

Joining Kennedy as a multiple winner was fellow freshman Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.), who first helped win the 400 medley relay alongside junior Marianne Molloy (Toms River, N.J.), senior Jordan Decker (Mason, Ohio) and freshman Cornelia Jerresand (Sweden), and then captured the 50 and 100 freestlye races with times of 25.33 and 54.38, respectively.

Other winners included freshman Madeline Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.) dominating the 1000 freestyle with a 33-second win and a time of 10:35.78, sophomore Heidi Dickson (Greenwich, N.J.) taking the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.40, freshman Abigail Graham capturing the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.43, junior Lexi Kolodgie (Baltimore, Md.) cruising to a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:20.81, junior Taylor Jackson (Thornton, Colo.) sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter dives and the relay quartet of Jerresand, junior Julie Stankiewicz (Metuchen, N.J.), freshman Taylor Patnode (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and junior Amelia Wootton (Bethel, Conn.) claiming the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.25).

Seton Hall went 1-2-3 in the 400 IM, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

Seton Hall will host another home meet next Saturday, Oct. 26 when the Pirates welcome Drexel to Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium. Meet time is 1 p.m.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ –  The Monmouth University men’s and women’s swimming teams opened their 2019-20 seasons against Montclair State and Seton Hall on Friday afternoon at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.

Both the men’s and women’s teams defeated Montclair State and fell to Seton Hall in the tri-meet. The men beat Montclair State, 206-52, while the women’s team earned a 127-point victory, 198-71.

Junior Trevor Askew, freshman Blake Reynolds and sophomore Camryn McHugh each opened their seasons with a pair of first-place finishes to lead the Hawks.

– Junior Trevor Askew led the Hawks with two first-place finishes in the 100 breast and 200 breast. Askew now has eight first-place finishes in his career.

– Freshman Blake Reynolds (50 free, 100 fly) won the first two events of his career.

– Classmate James Leitz won his first-career race by finishing first in the 100 back.

– On the women’s side, Camryn McHugh picked up where she left off following a standout freshman season. McHugh won the 100 back and 100 fly to increase her career wins total to 26.

– Rookie Tahlia Botha placed first in the 200 breast in her collegiate debut.

NUMBERS CRUNCH
– Trevor Askew set a new personal best with his first-place time of 58.89 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Lauren Baines set a new personal record with her third-place finish of 2:21.39 in the 200-yard butterfly.

Luke McDonald registered a new personal best time in the 100-yard butterfly (57.63).

UP NEXT
Monmouth returns to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 26 when the Hawks challenge conference foe Fairfield. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

South Orange, N.J. –  The Montclair State men’s and women’s swimming and diving team competed against Division I Seton Hall and Monmouth University on Friday evening. The Red Hawks dropped both dual matches as the men fell to 0-3 and the women dropped to 1-2 on the year.

Senior MADISON FRANKE had another strong showing on Friday and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.46. She finished .13 seconds behind first-place finisher Sierra Cripps of Seton Hall. She added a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 2:03.57.

CLAIRE LUIGARD placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, EMILY ROTHAMEL recorded a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and MOLLY GRAY placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly for the women.

PONSEE IBRAHIM tallied a score of 180.08 to place third in the 1-meter dive.

On the men’s side, SAMUEL GOLOVIN touched the wall in 52.95 to finish second in the 100-yard butterfly. He also added a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

TYLER DORSETT placed third in the 1,000-meter freestyle with a time of of 10:45.59 and finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle. KEVIN GIBSON recorded the next highest finish for the men and touched the wall in 5:10.94 during the 500-yard freestyle and placed fourth.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday to Panzer Pool for its Homecoming Meet.
