South Orange, N.J. – The Towson University women’s swimming and diving team won 13 events to claim a 197-103 victory over Seton Hall Saturday at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.

Leading the way was Annemarie Schnoor who had two individual wins and a victory as part of the 200-yard medley relay. She came in first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.32 and then 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.17.

In the 200-yard medley relay she teamed up with Haley Sutton, Jacki Schoening and Ryan Ulrich to finish with a time of 1:46.20.

How it Happened

  • Karlee Carminati captured the 1000-yard freestyle (10:35.21).
  • Sarah Margaret Locke won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.18.
  • Amanda Rosa was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06).
  • Maddi Mangum finished in first in the 200-yard butterfly.
  • With a score of 343.75 Emily Wilson won the 3-meter diving competition.
  • Meghan Jones prevailed in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.87).
  • Schoening also won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.31).
  • Ulrich won the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.01).
  • Suzannah Mills came in first in the 400-yard individual medley (4:31.25).
  • The quartet of Megan Clark, Locke, Megan Cowan and Ulrich had a first-place victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:35.64).
  • Clark placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:43.63) while Zeynep Balto was fourth (10:51.59).
  • Cowan finished in third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.71).
  • Ulrich was second in the 100-yard backstroke (59.47) and Alex Diacumakos (1:00.64).
  • Locke also came in second in the 100-yard freestyle while Cowan came in third (54.33).
  • In the 1-meter diving competition Wilson finished in second scoring 285.97 and Kelsey Jehl finished in third scoring 267.

The Towson men had a strong showing at Seton Hall despite a 162.5-134.5 setback Saturday.

Jack Saunderson led the way for the Tigers by winning the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke. In addition, Saunderson and Matt Essig were a part of a pair of winning relay teams.

How it Happened

  • Saunderson claimed the  200-yard butterfly in 1:47.41 and 200-yard backstoke in 1:52.29.
  • Saunderson teamed up with Owen Robinson, Ryan O’Leary and Matt Essing to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.10).
  • Robinson also won the 100-yard breaststroke (51.12).
  • Essing captured the 50-yard freestyle (20.74).
  • In the 400-yard freestyle relay Essing and Saunderson teamed up with Zach Bishop and Ryan Baldino to win the event in 3:06.61.
  • Evan Brophy came in second in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:45.87).
  • Ryan Baldino tied for second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.36).
  • O’Leary was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.21) and Ben Johnston finished third (59.35).
  • In the 3-meter diving competition Devin Gaul scored 234.15 to finish in second and Will Canny came in third scoring 227.41.
  • Baldino had a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (47.07).
  • O’Leary also finished in second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.81) and Nick Fitzwilliam finished in third (2:13.25).
  • Evan Lynch took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:40.33.
  • Richard Keller got second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:08.41).
  • Spencer Franklin and Bishop tied for fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (52.44).

Up Next for Towson

The Tigers will stay on the road as they head to Lewisburg, Pa to compete in the Bucknell Invitation. The meet is scheduled to take place Nov.16-18 with the prelims starting at 10 and the finals beginning at 6 p.m.

South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women’s swimming & diving team fell 197-103 to Towson on Family, Friends & Alumni Day inside Richie Regan Rec Center on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Courtney McCardle (Hurley, N.Y.) continued to excel in the sprints, winning the 100 free (53.14) and finishing runner-up in the 200 (1:54.27) and 50 (24.53).

Also scoring points in the 50 free were junior Clara Capone (West Hartford, Conn.), who took third, and sophomore Julie Stankiewicz (Metuchen, N.J.), who took fourth.

Junior Gabby Van Tassell (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished second in the 500 free after clocking in at 5:15.58, just a half second behind the leader.

In the 100 fly, junior Jilian Calocino (Maywood, N.J.), sophomore Amelia Wootton (Bethel, Conn.) and freshman Genevieve Ross (Spotsylvania, Va.) placed two-three-four to score big points for the Pirates, finishing with respective times of 1:00.33, 1:00.94 and 1:01.37.

Prior to Saturday’s meet, Seton Hall honored the late Maran Lougheed ’02, a Pirate swimming alum, who tragically passed away this summer. Late in the meet the Pirates picked up a dagger performance in the 100 fly where freshman Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.), senior Kyle Nash (Katy, Texas) and sophomore Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.) went one-two-three to virtually seal a team victory.

Earlier, in the 50 free, senior Dakota Williams (Noank, Conn.) and junior Sam Hendrix (Hillsborough, N.J.) finished second and third with respective times of 20.94 and 21.44. For Hendrix, it was his first meet as a Pirate after transferring from Kentucky and sitting out the first handful of meets this season. He also took third in the 100 free (47.48).

Freshman Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) tied for second in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.36.

In the 200 back, junior Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.) finished with a time of 2:05.81, exactly four full seconds ahead of the field. He also won the 100 breast after clocking in at 56.77.

Up next, the Pirates will conclude their competition this fall at the Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason in Fairfax, Va. Nov. 15-17.
