On the first night of competition Canadian Olympic team member Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson just missed winning the women’s 200 backstroke, but the 21 year old would not be outdone on the second night of the Mel Zajac Jr. International. Seltenreich-Hodgson took both the 200 IM and 50 freestyle on Saturday night.
Seltenreich-Hodgson, who trains at UBC, took the women’s 200 IM in her home pool in a time of 2:15.04 winning the event by over two seconds. She went on to win the 50 freestyle in a time of 26.52.
Fellow Olympic team member Markus Thormeyer won his second and third event of the competition on Saturday evening. Thormeyer, who took the 200 backstroke on Friday night, won the men’s 100 butterfly in a time of 55.13 and the 400 freestyle in a time of 3:58.85.
Another Canadian that will be representing her country in Rio dominated the women’s 100 butterfly. Noemie Thomas took the event in a time of 58.81 over three seconds ahead of Mary-Sophie Harvey who finished in a time of 1:02.11.
Kierra Smith and Martha McCabe faced each other once again, this time in the 200 breaststroke. Smith added the 200 breaststroke gold to her wins in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 IM from Friday night hitting the wall in a time of 2:25.67. McCabe finished second in a time of 2:26.65.
Yuri Kisil also picked up his third win of the competition taking the men’s 50 freestyle in a time of 22.99.
