Schiellerup Posts Strong Results at Denmark Nationals

Freshman Andreas Schiellerup of the NC State swimming & diving team, along with 2014 incoming freshmen Anton Ispen and Soren Dahl enjoyed a tremendous week at the Denmark Short Course Meter National Championships.

Overall, the trio collected nine medals throughout the weeklong competition, highlighted by Schiellerup’s gold medal in the 50 freestyle and the 50 backstroke. He posted the top time in each event en route to claiming three gold medals and one silver medal.

The freshman also set a Denmark national record in the 50 backstroke. Schiellerup captured the gold medal in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.12 (converted to 19.77 Short Course Yards), before setting a new Denmark national record in the 50 backstroke with a time of 24.21 (converted to 21.79 SCY).

A native of Birkerod, Denmark, Schiellerup continued his strong performance with a silver medal in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.07 (converted to 46.87 SCY). In addition, Schiellerup was part of the gold medal winning team in the 200 freestyle relay, as he led off with a time of 22.03 (converted to 19.69 SCY).

“We’re proud of Andreas and his accomplishments at his homeland’s National Championships and qualifying for the European Championships that will be held in Denmark as well, in December,” said head coach Braden Holloway. “He worked hard with the goal to head back home and represent his country and it’s great to see it all pay off for him.”

Incoming freshman Anton Ispen, who signed his National Letter of Intent [NLI] earlier this week, captured a silver medal in the 400 freestyle, touching the wall in 3:45.94 (converted to 4:17.35 SCY). He also was able to take bronze in the 1500 freestyle with a time of 14:53.52 (converted to 15:05.14 SCY), as well as the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:13.59 (converted to 3:48.26 SCY).

Soren Dahl, who signed his NLI last week, won a silver and bronze medal.
