With head coach Steve Brown leaving to join the University of Arizona’s coaching staff, the Sarasota YMCA has promoted senior assistant coach Brent Arckey to be its new head coach, the team announced via Twitter this morning.
The Sarasota YMCA is one of the most publically-recognizable YMCA programs in the nation, with an outstanding track record for producing big-time youth talents. Though their major successes have typically been with distance swimmers, the latest rising star to emerge from the program is breaststroker Bethany Leap, who will be a freshman at Texas this coming fall.
The Sarasota Sharks announced the move on Twitter this morning, tweeting a congratulatory tweet at Arckey’s account:

Arckey graduated from the University of Florida, and spent time as a senior assistant coach with the Gator Swim Club before joining Sarasota. He’s been with the Sharks for four seasons.
It will be up to Arckey to carry on the great Sarasota YMCA swimming tradition, which includes 10 consecutive YMCA state titles and a legacy of YMCA National titles that had run 9 straight seasons through 2013.
