RECAP

Women’s Highlights:

• Texas A&M’s Sycerika McMahon won the 1650 free in 16:17.95.
• Matea Samardzic from Southern Methodist won the 200 back in 1:53.54, which was one of the exceedingly few women’s events not won by the Aggies.
• Sarah Gibson from Texas A&M picked up her fourth individual win of the meet, winning the 100 free (48.52).
• The Aggies were perhaps most impressive in the 200 breast. They took the top 5 spots with all five of those swimmers going under 2:11. Senior Ashley McGregor won the event in an A-cut time of 2:07.16.
• Gibson proved to be the swimmer of the meet, taking her fifth individual title in the 200 fly (1:54.59). Bethany Galat had a strong swim for second place, just after touching third in the 200 breast, finishing in 1:55.67.
• The Aggie women finished with a win in the 400 free relay, and more than doubled the team score of second place LSU.

Men’s Highlights:

• LSU’s Sven Saemundsson won his second event of the invitational, taking the 1650 free in 15:05.24.
• Arizona State senior Richard Bohus won the 200 back in 1:41.34, and had two freshmen, Barkley Perry and Zachary Poti, finish second and fourth, respectively.
• Cory Bolleter from Texas A&M had just enough to hold off another Arizona State freshman, Cameron Craig, in the 100 free. Bolleter won by four one-hundredths—43.40 to 43.44.
• Texas A&M also took the men’s 200 breast, swimming within a second of the A-cut was Junior Mauro Castillo, who swam 1:53.84.
• Arizona State finished the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, and scored enough points on Day Three to leapfrog both LSU and Texas A&M for the team title.
