The Russian pair Natalia Ischenko and Svetlana Romashina combined to win a second-straight Olympic gold in the synchronized swimming duet on Tuesday. That gives each 4 career gold medals.

The Russian score (194.9910), and margin, were much smaller than their dominant 2012 performance, but they were still easily clear of the runners-up from China Huang Xuechen and Sun Wenyan, who picked up 2nd with 192.3688 points.

The Russians won all three scoring categories in Tuesday’s free routine, which combined with the scores from the earlier technical routine to determine the overall ranking.

The biggest slip came from the Ukrainians, who failed to execute as well as they did in their first routine and slipped from 3rd to 4th in the overall standings. That left the Japanese to earn the bronze medal.

The Russians now have 9 Olympic gold medals in synchronized swimming all-time, extending their lead over the United States in that count. Russia has never won a medal of a color other than gold in this sport at the Olympics.

Final standings of the Technical Routine:

  1. Russia – 194.5244
  2. China – 192.3688
  3. Japan – 188.0547
  4. Ukraine – 187.1358
  5. Spain – 186.6357
  6. Italy – 182.8079
  7. Canada – 179.8916
  8. France – 174.2491
  9. USA – 173.9945
  10. Greece – 171.8550
  11. Mexico – 170.9935
  12. Austria – 170.5970
