The Russian Swimming Federation has announced its national team roster for the 2016 Short Course World Cup in Windsor, Canada. This announcement comes in the wake of the resignation of Russian Swimming Federation President Sergey Naryshkin and National Team head coach Sergei Kolmogorov being renewed– you can read more about that here.
The team was selected based on criteria outlined here— it will include 29 athletes, 10 women and 19 men. Returning medalists from the 2014 Short Course Worlds team are Kirill Prigoda, Vladimir Morozov, Aleksandr Popkov, and Veronika Popova. Prigoda and Morozov were both individual medalists in Doha. Prigoda finished third in the 200m breastroke, and Morozov finished second in the 100m IM. In addition, Morozov and Aleksandr Popkov were both members of Russia‘s gold medal winning 4x50m freestyle relay. Veronika Popova will bring experience to the women’s side as a member of the silver medal winning mixed 4x50m freestyle relay.
Russia will be without all of its Olympic medalists from Rio – Anthon Chupkov and Evgeny Rylov previously announced that they wouldn’t participate, and the only female medalist Yulia Efimova is also absent from the roster.
The 13th Annual FINA Short Course World Championships is set to take place in Windsor, Canada on December 6-11, 2016. The full team rosters are below.
