Russia Breaks Official World Record; True European Record in 200 Mixed Free Relay

The Russians have broken the official World Record in the 200 SCM mixed medley relay; swum the fastest all-time European mark, but are still shy of the world’s all-time best (or even the all-time best of 2013).

The team of Sergey Fesikov (21.13), Vlad Morozov (20.72), Rozaliya Nasretdniova (23.70), and Veronika Popova (23.98) combined to swim a 1:29.53. That cleared the 1:29.61 that Australia was at the Tokyo stop of this year’s FINA World Cup Series as the official World Record; and France’s 1:29.64 from this meet last year as the European Record, and fastest all-time swim by a European relay.

It is, however, still short of the 1:29.31 that Australia swam at the Eindhoven stop of the FINA World Cup series.

It wasn’t too far off, however, and Russia’s relay is young enough that they should continue to improve, and make another challenge at this record in the next couple of years. Feiskov is the oldest at 24, Morozov is only 21, Popova 22, and Nasretdinova is only 16 years old.

Australia’s swim from Eindhoven was after FINA approved the creation of a World Record in this event, but before they opened the record up to be set.
