Rosenburg Breaks NCAA Division III National Record Again in Finals

Denison junior Damon Rosenburg wasn’t done after his NCAA Division III Record in prelims at the Miami  University Invitational. Once again braving a winter snowstorm, Rosenburg became the first Division III swimmer under 54 seconds in the 100 yard race, and he was well under, swimming a 53.61 for the win and another new national record.

The old record was his 54.08 from prelims, and the record before that was a now-disputed 54.27 from College of Staten Island’s Pavel Buyanov in 2009.

Rosenburg now takes firm control of the men’s 100 breaststroke conversation in Division III. The man who looked like he might be Rosenburg’s biggest combination (though Division III always seems to come up with a few international surprises) was Emory’s Andrew Wilson, who was 3rd in this race in 56.00.

Correction: Trevor Manz swam a 54.92 at the TPSC Invitational. Kyle Yu (Penn) swam a 54.49.

Angeles (Chicago) and Manz (Kenyon) were both faster in season than Wilson.
Manz went 54.49 so while he’s still considerably behind Rosenberg’s great swim he is another legitimate candidate to get under 54 by NCAAs. The breaststroke revolution comes to Div 3.
