Rookie Lauren Kilgore Scores 27 Points as Toledo Tops Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Toledo women’s swimming and diving team earned a 205-90 win over Youngstown State Saturday afternoon in Youngstown. Freshman Lauren Kilgore led the way with a meet-high 27 points.

“We had a strong performance today coming off a Friday night full of racing,” said head coach Brie Globig. “It is always great to see strong results two days in a row. I look forward to our next meet at Akron.”

Kilgore opened the afternoon winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.19. Joining Kilgore in the top-three of the 200 fly was junior Emma Sampson, who took third with a time of 2:17.88. Kilgore added in two more wins, taking first in the 100 freestyle and 200 IM. Kilgore was joined by junior Lisa Eriksson in the 100 free, with Eriksson coming in third in the event. Sophomore Kendra Polewski and Eriksson finished right behind Kilgore in the 200 IM, taking second and third, respectively.

Cami Cahill, Jovana Duric, Samantha Ekleberry, Ashley Jeffreys, Izzy Jones, Duda Sales, and Bec Welke each took home a first-place finish in their respective events.

The Rockets took first on both boards in the diving well. Sophomore Sydney Jackson took first on the one-meter board, while sophomore Joelle Gallais took first on the three-meter board.

The Rockets will be back in the water Friday, Oct. 25 as they travel to Akron for their first Mid-American Conference dual meet of the season. The meet is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.

The Youngstown State women’s swimming and diving team dropped a dual meet to Toledo, 205-90, on Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Natatorium.

Aubrey Whitaker and Casey Prentice each picked up event victories in the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle, respectively. Whitaker captured the win in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:55.70 while Prentice recorded a time of 24.79 in the 50-yard free.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Taylor Bishop, Prentice, Hannah Olger and Whitaker won its event with a time 1:39.41.

Whitaker also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.15, and Mallory Pitstick earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.57 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.97.

Tess Weiskopf led the Penguins in diving finishing second in the one-meter dive with a score of 227.85 and third in the three-meter dive with a score of 206.70.

Aida Jurinovics also came in second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.04.

The Penguins return to action when they host Ball State, Friday, Oct. 25, at the Beeghly Natatorium.
