With just over a year out from the start of the 2016 Olympic Games, host Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Park shows glimpses of positive construction progress. As doubts still surround the notion that several venues may actually be completed on time, this aerial video does show where advances in the venues have taken place.
Take a look at the nine total venues that will be housed within Olympic Park, as the camera scans over actual footage mixed in with computer-generated graphics to give viewers the overall vision of how things will look in August 2016. Swimming events are still slated to be held at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Barra, while the diving competition is going to be taking place at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Center, along with synchronized swimming.
Water Polo matches are still looking for a home, however. As we reported back in May, the original location for water polo, the Julio Delamare Aquatic Park, was abandoned due to delays in construction and new venues were being sought. The Maria Lenk Aquatics Center and the primary swimming venue were both mentioned as possible substitutes, although no official plans have been released as of yet. The rio2016.com site still lists “Delamare Aquatic Park” as the water polo venue at this time.
After having been plagued with bad news such as construction worker strikes, pollution and security concerns, perhaps the video will be the catalyst for the Rio Games’ preparation to take a new, less obstacle-ridden path.
