Riley League Signs National Letter of Intent to Swim for Davidson

Riley League from Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina has verbally committed to Davidson College in the Collegiate Coastal Swimming Association.

He joins the men’s team as an IM’er with an emphasis on breaststroke. His yards best is 1:52.67 in the 200 yard IM to go with 57.81 and 2:09.48 in the 100 and 200 yard races. He is the defending South Carolina 4A State Champion in that 200 IM. Given the three-second drop he had at that meet in the 200 IM, we could see a very good swim from him maybe in the 400 IM or the breaststroke races at YMCA Nationals in the spring, representing the Upper Palmetto YMCA Stingrays.

With the graduation of Drew Onken after last season, Davidson’s breaststroke and IM groups are a bit of a vacuum this season. There’s some good young talent, like sophomore Grant Smith and juniors Drew and Spencer Gill, but League probably comes in with the potential to ‘lead the lane’ in both of those groups.

Davidson has a great recent history of developing IM’ers with a breaststroke specialty, like they did with Onken, so overall this seems like a good fit for League.
