Rider University Men Remain Undefeated

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Rider men defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Marist in a dual meet Saturday, while the Rider women lost to the Red Foxes.

“Things went very well today,” said Rider head coachSteve Fletcher.

For the Rider men (6-0, 2-0 MAAC) junior Matthan-Matthew Martir (Severn, Md./Old Mill) won the 50 free in a pool record time of 20.97, the 100 free (46.54), won the 100 butterfly (51.00) and swam on the pool record-breaking 200 medley relay which won in 1:33.29.

Sophomore Zack Molloy (Toms River/Toms River HS North) won the 500 free in a pool record time of 4:33.27, won the 1,000 free (9:31.52), and swam on the record-breaking 200 medley relay.

On Senior Day, senior Adam Phillips (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) won the 100 breaststroke (58.13) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay, and seniorWayco Bailey (Casper, Wyo./Natrona County HS) won the three-meter dive (288.70).

Freshman Lucas Musselman (Timonium, Md./Loyola Blakefield) won the 100 backstroke (52.85) and the 200 backstroke (1:53.86),freshman Griffin Hutton (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) won the 200 butterfly (1:54.35),freshman Carter Paules (Emmaus, PA) won the 200 breaststroke (2:09.13) and junior William Molloy(Toms River/Toms River HS North) won the 200 free (1:42.09).

For the Rider women (1-5, 1-1) freshman Taylor Stalnaker (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 100 backstroke (58.44) and swam on the winning 400 free relay with senior Taylor Shelley (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy), sophomore Baileigh Vanderhoof (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) and freshman Leeanna Cass (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.).

“Even in defeat our women performed very well,” Fletcher said. “We were a lot more competitive and there were some great races today. Swimming against conference competition is very good for our women. They looked stronger, they are racing better and swimming faster.”

Sophomore Julianna Runk (Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) won the 200 IM (2:15.86).

On Senior Day, senior Kaitlyn O’Connor (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) won the 200 butterfly (2:13.00)

Rider competes at the Big Al Open December 4-6 at Princeton. “That is a great meet for us,” Fletcher said. “Three days of trials and finals, in a championship format, so it is like a rehearsal for the championship meets at the end of the season. And it will have great competition.”
