The Richmond women’s swimming & diving team has been selected as the favorite to take home the 2015 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship, according to a poll conducted of the league’s head coaches.

Winners of four consecutive A-10 titles, the Spiders have been predicted to capture the 2015 A-10 women’s championship. This year’s squad is led by a strong group of seniors including Allison Titley, Meredith Gouger, Anna Fetter, Anne Marie Bilott and Katherine Cook.

Since that last title in February, Richmond saw expected and unexpected losses. Three-time Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year and NCAA Woman of the Year Candidate Mali Kobelja, along with an outstanding 2014 senior class, celebrated graduation. The Spiders underwent a change in assistant coaches (to be announced next week). The program and department suffered the tragic loss of former swimmer and women’s basketball director of operations Natalie Lewis.

“Wow, a lot has changed in the last five months,” noted Barany on the upcoming season. “We’re a different team than we were last season, but our bond and our focus seems to be stronger. It takes a lot of hard work to make sure the championship results resemble these early season polls. Time will tell if we’re up to it.”

Fordham, which last won the A-10 title in 2010, was predicted to finish second in this year’s poll. Massachusetts, Davidson and George Mason rounded out the top five, and were followed by Duquesne, La Salle, George Washington, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis.
The 2015 A-10 Swimming & Diving Championships will again be held Feb. 18-21 at the SPIRE Institute located in Geneva, Ohio.

Richmond will open the season October 10 and 11 in Wilmington, North Carolina against Old Dominion and UNC Wilmington, before hosting three A-10 programs (Davidson, Duquesne and George Mason) in for a home meet on October 17 and 18. The swimming portion will be held at GRAP, while the diving portion will be on campus.
