RACE VIDEO: Vyatchanin Swims to Season-Best to Win Men’s 200 Backstroke in Santa Clara

Arkady Vyatchanin is still looking for a country to represent for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, but one thing he’s found is a serious groove in the 200 backstroke.

At 30 years old, Vyatchanin has looked incredible in 2014, swimming the best times in his best event since 2009 (and almost catching up to those swims as well). All year in his post-race interviews, and with the results he’s had he’s given a lot of them, Vyatchanin has sounded very relaxed this year, very confident, and very comfortable.

Despite not being entirely positive about what country he might represent next and some frustrations with seeking that partnership for the future, the Russian-born swimmer sounds very much in control and sounds like he’s in a good place. That is translating into results so far.
