PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh swimming & diving program will conclude its 2019-20 home schedule on Friday at Trees Pool with a unique meet against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Coming off dominant victories over Denison, Duquesne, Carnegie Mellon, Clarion and St. Francis (PA) over the last two weekends at Trees Pool, the Panthers will seek another impressive performance against the Buckeyes, who moved up No. 7 in this week’s CSCAA TYR Top 25 for women’s swimming and diving and No. 14 in the men’s rankings.

The meet will begin with diving at 1 p.m., and the first 200 fans through the doors at Trees Pool will receive a FREE Pitt swimming & diving magnet. Swimming events are slated to start at 5 p.m.

The swimming portion of the meet – branded “Flip the Treehouse” – will feature a rarity in the sport: both long-course meters (LCM) and short-course yards (SCY) swimming events in one meet.

Swimming will begin with LCM action in 11 individual events before Trees Pool is “flipped” to be ready for SCY competition in 11 more events. There will be no relays or distance events.

“The goal was to do something unique and fun for the athletes,” Pitt head coach John Hargis said. “It’s an Olympic year, so opportunities to swim long-course meters are always valuable. And swimming short-course yards against a very talented team like Ohio State will also help us prepare for ACCs. We hope the result is a fun and relaxing yet extremely competitive meet that the athletes and fans really enjoy.”

Admission for Friday’s special meet with Ohio State is FREE for all fans.

The meet will also be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and via the ESPN app at this link.
