The University of Pittsburgh men have added Lionville Community YMCA’s Tommy Cestare to their class of 2020.

Cestare is a sprint freestyler, and was a YMCA Nationals finalist in the 50 yard freestyle this spring. His time of 21.30 in finals was a lifetime best and earned him a 22nd place finish, or 6th in the C final. He also swam the 2nd leg of LCY’s 31st place 200 free relay, and was the only leg of that relay to break 22. He did so by quite a margin, splitting a 20.73, which was the fastest split of any relay leg not in the top-16.

At Long Course Y Nats this past summer, he just missed a finals spot in the 50m free, and also was close to getting a 2nd swim in the 100 free.

Cestare’s Top Times

  • 50y free – 21.30
  • 100y free – 47.08
  • 50m free – 24.93
  • 100m free – 54.74

Last year, Pitt had their top 5 guys in the 50 all under 20.5, though they all will have/have already graduated before Cestare gets to campus. He’ll be a welcome addition as Pitt will work to replenish their sprint depth. So far, Cestare is the sole commit to the Panthers in their class of 2020.
