This year was a terrific year for Michael Phelps, as he came out of retirement to compete in his final Olympic Games.

“I came back for a reason, I wanted to finish a job that I didn’t get done in 2012.”

That he did. In the 2016 Rio Olympic Games Phelps earned another five gold medals and a silver to his tally. Overall, Phelps has earned an impressive 28 medals at Olympic Games, a record unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.

He won’t be competing anymore, but still will be attending meets, getting the team ready for the 2020 Tokyo Games.

“There are so many things that we can all do to make the sport even better.”

On top of all his accomplishments in the pool this year and over his career, Phelps has recently married Nicole Johnson, back in June 2016. Phelps is looking to some time back home for a while after a long travelling stint.
