University Park, Pa — The Penn State Men’s Swimming and Diving team swept Bloomsburg in their sixth meet of the 2021-2022 season. The Nittany Lions won with a score of 175-55.
Overview:
The Nittany Lions dominated in today’s swim meet as they came in first place in almost all of the events with the help of standouts Eduardo Oliviera, Daniel Raisanen, and Andrew Clough.
All winners (first place only):
In the 400 Yard Medley Relay, Penn State came in first with a time of 3:17.38. The team includes Lachlan Byrne, Daniel Raisanen, Victor Baganha, and Zane Sutton.
Eduardo Oliviera came in first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 9:21.37. Olivier also came in first in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:38.44.
In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Andrew Clough placed first with a time of 51.77.
In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Devon Chenot came in first with a time of 56.99.
In the 200 Yard Butterfly, Victor Baganha placed first with a time of 1:52.44.
In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Daniel Raisanen swam a 47.24 to finish first.
In the 200 Yard Backstroke, Andrew Clough placed first with a time of 1:53.12.
In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Calvin Wise placed first with a time of 2:06.26.
In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Eduardo Oliviera came in first with a time of 4:29.45.
Lachlan Byrne placed first in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 50.26.
In the 200 Yard IM, Daniel Raisanen finished first with a time of 1:53.94.
In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Penn State came in first with a time of 3:02.97. The team includes Victor Baganha, Zane Sutton, Devon Chenot, and Lachlan Byrne.
The Penn State Women’s Swimming & Diving team won against Bloomsburg in their second home meet of the season. They topped the Huskies by winning every event of the day, earning a 176-56 victory.
“We’ve [Penn State Swim & Dive] continued to make progress,” Head Coach Tim Murphy said. “They [the team] had a challenging week of school, they had a challenging week in the pool. We asked them to come in on Saturday afternoon and continue to challenge themselves. They did that. And we’re a better team at the end of this week than when we started it.”
The women’s team was lead by seniors Sadie Schumann and Marie Schobel, junior Courtney Marlin and sophomore Kylie Rydland, who each earned a pair of individual event wins.
Top Swims
Schumann won the 100 free (52.44) and led PSU in sweeping the 200 IM. She placed first in 2:06.26 while sophomore Lizzie Danforth (2:07.41) and senior Marget Shelly (2:09.29) finished second and third.
Schobel won the 200 back (1:57.60) by 16 seconds and the 100 fly (55.94) by nearly five seconds.
Penn State won both backstroke events as sophomore Ellie Brandbergh won the 100 back in 57.74 and led the team in sweeping the event. Danforth followed Brandbergh to second in 58.48 while senior Madison Ledwith placed third (59.57) and freshman Victoria Howard finished fourth (59.71).
Marlin won the 1000 (10:11.51) and 500 free (5:00.22). In the 1000, she was followed to second by sophomore Anna Redican (10:41.36).
Rydland won the breaststroke events, placing first in the 100 (1:07.02) and in the 200 (2:24.60).
Penn State swept the 200 free with sophomore Cat Stanford placing first (1:52.85), Schumann finishing second (1:52.94) and junior Devon Forker coming home in third (1:56.76)
Sophomore Morgan Rinn won the 200 fly in 2:02.13 as Marget Shelly finished second (2:07.72).
Sophomore Mary Brinker won the 50 free by a second with a time of 23.62.
Nittany Lions Relays
Penn State won both the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Schobel, graduate student Maddie Cooke, and juniors Emma Harvey and Abigail Amdor opened the meet by winning the 400 medley in 3:44.20. At the conclusion of completion, Amdor, Stanford, and freshman Marly Lough and Shelby Kahn swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3:26.07 to win the event.

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA- Junior Andy Thomas (Harleysville, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) posted the fastest time in the 50-yard Freestyle as Bloomsburg University men’s swimming team dropped a 175-55 decision at Division I Penn State University (McCoy Natatorium), Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies posted 21 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks on Saturday, afternoon. Thomas, Junior Luke Scoboria (Birdsboro, Pa./Exeter), and Senior Jace Fry (Palmyra, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led the way with three conference marks while senior Daniel Mueser and junior Nick Fiddler (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) each posted two.
Senior Collin Hummel (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg), senior Pat Agnew (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), senior Logan Baker (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), junior Tucker Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff), junior Gabe Deiderick (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), junior Brian Harrell (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), junior Blake Nesbitt (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth), freshman Anthony Goulstone all qualified for the PSAC conference meet once.
Thomas shattered the field in the 50-yard freestyle as he touched the wall at 20.64 to earn the victory. Thomas earned his first PSAC conference cut of the meet and was just shy of earning the NCAA B cut. Penn State Lachlan Byrne touched the wall nearly a second later with a time of 21.50.
After a weekend of competition, Edinboro University and Penn State University, the Huskies posted a 1-2 record overall.
The Bloomsburg Women’s swim team dropped a 176-56 decision after competing against Division I Penn State University Saturday afternoon at the McCoy Natatorium.
With a handful of Penn State swimmers in exhibition, junior Anna Sugra (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) received two second place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard Breaststroke. Sugra earned a season best time in the 100 Breaststroke touching the wall at 1:10.34 and finished with her second PSAC conference cut of the night in the 200 Breaststroke finishing with a time of 2:35.13. The Huskies posted five other second-place finishes coming from junior Grace Beierschmitt (Dover, Pa./Dover) (50-yard Freestyle), freshman Maggie Shaffer (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) (100-yard Freestyle), graduate student Lindsay Mooney (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) (100-yard Butterfly), sophomore Madison Osanitsch (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) (200-yard Backstroke), sophomore Sophia Besterman (500-yard Freestyle).
