Penn cruised past Army in a dual meet on Friday, January 19th at Penn. The Quakers won a combined 24 of 32 events, dropping 3 men’s events and 5 women’s. The meet traded out the 1000 free (the usual 1st individual event) for the 400 IM.

Thomas Dillinger won the men’s 50 free and tied with Mark Andrew for 1st in the 100 free, but posted his slowest time of the season in both. Dillinger’s time in the 50, 20.69, was exactly 1 second slower than his fastest time this season. Dillinger and Andrew went 45.68 in the 100, which was 2.38 seconds off Dillinger’s time, while it was Andrew’s 2nd fastest time of the season (season best 45.3).

Sean Lee took the men’s 100 fly in a time of 49.20, whcih is his 2nd slowest time this year. Lee has been posting very consistent 100 fly times in dual meets this season, with his fastest (48.97) and slowest (49.29) being separated by just .32 seconds. His overall season best of 47.57 from the Tennessee Invitational is the fastest time in the Ivy League this season just 1 month away from the Men’s Ivy League Championship.

Penn’s men swam the 200 free relay exhibition, leaving Army to win the event with a 1:22.89. Penn’s ‘A’ relay time of 1:21.35 is less than 3 seconds off their season best and Ivy-League-leading time of 1:18.69. However, despite their time being quick for a dual meet relative to their season best, it was actually only the 2nd fastest 200 free relay in the Ivy League in January. Yale, which has posted a season best of 1:19.97, put up a 1:21.32 on January 9th. In winning the event, Army posted a 1:22.89, which is just half a second off their season best of 1:22.35. The fastest time in the Patriot League this year is from Navy, which posted a 1:21.61 in November.

Similarly, Penn’s women also swam exhibition in the 200 free relay, posting a time of 1:35.78. That time sits just 2 seconds off their season best of 1:33.65. Their season best puts them 6th in the Ivy League this year, in front of Cornell and Dartmouth. Their time is also the 2nd fastest posted by an Ivy League team in January.
