Penn Earns Verbal Commitment from William Kamps

Two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American William Kamps has announced his verbal commitment to the application process at the University of Pennsylvania.* He will join fellow class of 2022 verbal commits Jacob Furlong and Zachariah Althoff in the fall.

“I am blessed to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Pennsylvania. Penn offers the best when it comes to academics and athletics, and I could not be happier with my decision. Thank you to my parents, coaches, friends, and Coach Schnur for making this dream a reality. Go Quakers!!!”

Kamps is a senior at Marmion Academy in Aurora, Illinois. He placed 6th in the 500 free (4:29.39) at the 2017 IHSA Boys’ State Swimming and Diving Championships in February, and just missed out finaling in the 200 free with a 13th-place finish in prelims (1:41.36). He does his club swimming with Academy Bullets Swim Club and specializes in distance free, IM, and fly. Kamps followed up on his junior high school season with a strong performance at NCSA Spring Championship, where he went best times in the SCY 200/500 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM. This summer he competed at Speedo Junior Nationals and earned PBs in the 200/400 free, 100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM.

Kamps’ best times would have scored in the B finals of the 200/500 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM, and the C final of the 1650 free at the seven-team 2017 Ivy League Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships. He is still out of scoring range in the 200 IM and 100 fly.
