Navy extended its leads even further on the 3rd day of competition, winning a combined 8 of 13 events between the men and women. 2 more league records fell during the session, 1 from Ben Cono in the men’s 100 breast and the other from James Wilson in the men’s 100 back.

Loyola senior Ben Cono blasted a 52.21 to win the 100 breast by well over 2 seconds. He broke his own meet, pool, and league records with the swim, shaving .06 seconds off his personal best. He was out in a speedy 24.48, the fastest 1st 50 in the field by well over half a second. He came back in 27.73, which is where he took off the most on the rest of the field, with the next fastest split coming in at 28.91 from 3rd place finisher Chris Bondarowicz. While off the NCAA ‘A’ cut by about half a second, that time will surely get him an invite to the NCAAs in a month.

James Wilson, a Navy sophomore, took the 100 back with a lifetime best of 47.05, breaking the meet and league records of 47.16, previously held by Conner Stuewe of Boston University. Wilson was out fast at 22.68, coming home in 24.37. Wilson also led a tight field in the 100 fly, charging into the wall .26 seconds ahead of teammate Zachary Piedt, 47.45 to 47.71. Kevin Doo of West Point came in 3rd at 48.80. Wilson was out the fastest at 22.25, and came back the fastest at 25.20.

Bradley Buchter (Navy) came within 1.3 points of breaking his own league record in the men’s 1 meter diving, which he set last year. Buchter’s record stands at 418.65, and he finished with a score of 417.35 tonight. He won by 77 points over teammate Nate Belch.

West point freshman Whitney Chang stormed to a win in the 100 fly, coming in .19 seconds off the league record 0f 53.40. Chang was out fast at 24.54, and fell off a little bit on the back 50 (29.05), but was still able to comfortably win the race.
