Texas took a short road trip to SMU tonight for a dual meet against in-state rival SMU. The Texas women won with a final score of 159 to 132. For a recap of the men’s meet, click here.

The Longhorns started things off with a 1:40.91 to win the 200 medley relay, highlighted by a 22.26 anchor from Bridget Semenuk. Logan Schiller picked up their next win, posting a 10:10.45 in the 1000 free. Distance ace Evie Pfeifer didn’t swim that event, but she won the 200 free right after in 1:49.06. She won her 2nd race of the meet just minutes later with a 1:03.81 in the 100 breast.

Freshman star Kelly Pash topped Big 12 Champion Claire Adams, 53.90 to 54.55, in the 100 back. She would later go on to win the 500 free in 4:48.83. SMU then snapped the Longhorns’ streak as AAC champ Erin Trahan put up a 2:00.49 in the 200 fly. Texas closed out the first half of the meet with a win, however, as Julia Cook won the 50 free in 23.45.

Emily Reese posted a Texas win in the 100 free after the break with a 51.64. The backstrokes were swept by Texas freshmen as Miranda Heckman claimed the 200 back (2:01.92). Just as the Longhorns were building a win streak again, Julia Yakushi was the next to win for SMU, coming from behind to win the 200 breast in 2:21.75. Trahan completed the butterfly sweep, winning the 100 fly in 54.16. Gabi Grobler ended the individual slate with a win for the Mustangs, posting a 2:04.08 in the 200 IM.

The Texas A squad was disqualified in the 200 free relay, but the B team won in 1:34.00. Though they were ultimately DQed, Pash (22.13) and Cook (22.34) put up a pair of flying-start 22-lows.

PRESS RELEASE – TEXAS WOMEN

DALLAS, Texas – The No. 10 Texas women’s swimming and diving program finished the 2019-20 regular season with a 159-132 win at SMU on Friday evening.

Texas’ meet was highlighted by a pool record by senior diver Alison Gibson in the 3m diving competition.

NOTES

  • The Longhorns saw Alison Gibson and Paola Pineda both eclipse the pool record mark in the 3m diving competition. Gibson won the event and claimed the record with a score of 343.88, while Pineda took second with a 329.03.
  • In the 200 medley relay was claimed by Claire AdamsEvie PfeiferKelly Pash and Bridget Semenuk by a time of 1:40.91.
  • Pash added two individual wins, claiming the 100 back with a time of 53.90, and the 500 free with a time of 4:48.83.
  • Pfeifer also added two individual wins. She won the 200 free with a time of 1:49.06, and the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.81.
  • Semenuk won the 50 free with a time of 22.44.
  • Adams claimed the 100 fly title with a time of 56.09.
  • Logan Shiller hit her fastest time of the season on the 1000 free, winning the race at 10:10.45.

PRESS RELEASE – SMU WOMEN

DALLAS (SMU) – Three Mustangs picked up wins as the SMU women’s swimming and diving team fell, 159-132, to No. 10 Texas on Friday night at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

Erin Trahan swept butterfly events, while Gabi Grobler won the 200-yard individual medley and Julia Yakushi picked up her first collegiate win in the 200-yard breaststroke to lead the Mustangs.

Trahan won the 100 fly in a time of 54.16 and led an SMU duo in the top two of the 200, covering the distance in 2:00.49 for the win. Olivia Grossklaus clocked in at 2:00.88 for second.

In the 200 IM, Grobler’s 2:04.08 was good for the win, while Janelle Gursoy came in third at 2:07.46. Grobler was also the runner-up in the 200 back (2:02.14), while Felicia Anderson was third in both backstroke events.

Yakushi’s win in the 200 breast saw her stop the clock at 2:21.75 ahead of teammate Elise Johnson, who finished third at 2:24.61. The freshman was also the top finisher in the 100 distance for the Mustangs, coming in second with a time of 1:05.25. Johnson was third at 1:05.97.

Frederica Kizek posted a season-best time of 10:12.97 to place second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, and Grossklaus also posted a runner-up finish to lead the Mustangs in the 500 distance (4:59.42).

Sam Smith finished third in both the 50 (23.93) and 100 (51.89) freestyles, and Gursoy (1:52.31) and Alex Stevens (1:52.69) finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 free.

In relay action, Stevens, Trahan, Anderson and Smith closed the event with a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.51).

Nicole Stambo led the Mustang divers at the event, placing fourth on both boards. Her 301.50 on 3 meter was a personal best.

Prior to the event, the Mustangs honored three seniors for their contributions to the program – Anderson, Lindsey Blanchard and Trahan.
