Rostock, Germany- After collecting nine medals at the FINA Grand Prix in Madrid last weekend, U.S. divers headed to Rostock, Germany to compete in the next stop of the series. Coming off a gold medal performance last week, the 10-meter synchronized duo of  Jessica Parratto (Dover, N.H.) and Amy Magaña (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned another gold medal in Rostock. This marked the second time the pair has dove together in competition since the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, where they placed seventh.

“I made a really good decision getting back with Jess,” said Magaña. “I have another opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games outside of my individual events and that’s really exciting. The best way this experience will prepare me for the Trials and for Tokyo is relearning how Jess and I work together. We did a lot of really good things but there are definitely things we need to tweak and improve before we get to the trials.”

Parratto also placed third in the individual 10-meter final, earning her fourth medal in two weeks after taking gold in the event the previous week.

“I’m excited to be back on the World Stage with [Amy] and to be able to put up two good performances, enough to win gold, in both these events,” said Parratto, “I did a lot of diving today, and knowing that I came out of this day really healthy still and being able to handle it, still having a lot of energy in the finals was really encouraging to me. I’m getting older and the 10 meter doesn’t get easier on the body so I know that Trials won’t be physically exhausting, but it definitely will be mentally, and I think today was a really good example of that. Being able to deal with that today, I think that’s what I’m the most proud of.”

Mike Hixon (Amherst, Mass.) took home silver in the 3-meter individual competition and will compete in the 3-meter synchronized competition with Andrew Capobianco on Saturday.

Competition will continue through the weekend with the men’s 10-meter individual and synchronized events, the women’s 3-meter individual and synchronized events and the men’s 3-meter synchronized event.
