Ottesen and Govorov Record Impressive 50 Butterfly Performances

On the second day of the Danish Open both Jeanette Ottesen and Andrey Govorov put up impressive 50 butterfly times.

Ottesen took the event in a time of 25.48, nearly a full second ahead of Anna Dowgiert of Poland who posted a 26.46. The time puts the Danish start second in the world rankings with only Sarah Sjostrom ahead of her.

Her winning performance is the fifth fastest time that she has recorded in her career with her fastest being the Danish national record of 25.24.

Amalie Mikkelsen finished third with a time of 27.09.

Govorov won the men’s 50 butterfly in a time of 23.37. His time is also the second fastest time recorded this year with Cesar Cielo being the only athlete who has posted a faster time.

Pawel Korzeniowski finished second in a time of 23.98 followed by Viktor Bromer who posted a 24.54.

Rikke Moller Pedersen took the women’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:07.13. With that time she passing Kanako Watanabe in the world rankings to now place fifth in the world.

Jenna Laukkanen finished second in a time of 1:08.74 followed by Martina Moravcikova who touched in a time of 1:08.88.

Barbora Zavadova of the Czech Republic won the women’s 400 IM in a time of 4:41.52 placing her 11th in the world rankings. Zavadova dominated the race finishing nine seconds ahead of Alicja Tchorz of Poland who touched in a time of 4:50.52. Hannah Nissen finished third in a time of 4:58.88.

Mie Nielsen had a strong final 50 meters to take the women’s 200 freestyle in a time of 1:58.83 which places her 17th in the world rankings, tied with Melanie Costa Schmid. Nielsen headed into the final length of the race 23 one-hundredths of a second behind Louise Hansson, eventually taking over the leading and being Hansson by eight tenths of a second.

Hansson took the silver in a time of 1:59.63 while Simona Baumrtova of the Czech Republic finished a distant third hitting the wall in a time of 2:01.46.

The men’s event was a nail biter with Magus Westermann finishing five one-hundredths of a second ahead of Daniel Skanning. Westermann recorded a time of 1:49.47 followed by Skanning who posted a time of 1:49.52. Jan Switkowski of Poland had a strong final 50 meters to put himself into the race touching in a time of 1:49.87.

Christop Meier took the men’s 400 IM in a time of 4:25.27 while Matti Mattsson won the men’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.42.
