OSU’s Josh Fleagle Redshirts Senior Season And Heads West To Phoenix

Anyone following the Ohio State men’s swimming & diving team thus far this season has almost certainly noted the absence of a typically solid-performing senior, Josh Fleagle. However, if you watched the 2015 Arena Pro Swim Series in Minneapolis this past weekend, you would have caught the St. Marys, Ohio native in action representing Phoenix Swim Club.

Fleagle has confirmed he is indeed redshirting his senior season with the Buckeyes in his quest for a USA Olympic roster berth. He now resides in Phoenix, Arizona and trains with the Phoenix Swim Club Elite squad, who also claims fellow Ohio native and Puerto Rican National Teamer, Erik Risolvato as well as USA National Team member, Giles Smith as members.

Last year while competing for Ohio State, Fleagle landed himself on the First Team All-Big Ten team after scoring a conference title in the men’s 200 freestyle.  Also at the 2015 Big Ten Championships, Fleagle finished 2nd in the men’s 100 freestyle and 7th in the 50 freestyle events.

At the NCAA Championships, Fleagle scored points for the Buckeyes in the form of his 8th place individual finish in the men’s 200 freestyle, while also being an integral component of his team’s 800 free relay, 200 free relay and 400 yard free relay squads.
