Olympian Tyler Clary Returning to Club Wolverine, Too

With Michigan becoming all-of-a-sudden a hotbed for distance talent (including 2012 Olympian Connor Jaeger), and the pro training group at Fullerton seeming to be all-but-dissapated, Tyler Clary has decided to return to Ann Arbor after the Olympics to continue training with Club Wolverine at the University of Michigan.

For Clary, who spent his three years at the NCAA level swimming for Michigan, this will give him both the opportunity to continue his elite training as well as complete his degree, which he left unfinished to focus on his Olympic training. He’ll join fellow Fullerton trainees Emily Brunemann and Michael Klueh, who will also join this group in September.

Clary will be a part of an IM/distance group that will include: Klueh, Brunemann, Jaeger, Sean Ryan, Kyle Whitaker, Ryan Feeley, and now Clary. That’s not bad for a program led by coach Mike Bottom, who built his reputation as a sprint coach at the Race Club.

I would assume they’re going back to CW because Jon’s wife is a professor at UMich and he will be splitting his time between Cali and Ann Arbor, so he will still (unofficially) have input as it relates to their workouts while ensuring they still have elite-level coaching when he goes back to Cali.

I don’t think Clary went back to Michigan for Club Wolverine. He clearly stated in an interview that he wanted to finish his degree at Michigan after London, so i think he is swimming there because he will be at Michigan for school

I thought that Bottom wasn’t the one directly overseeing the distance group there?

The group at Fullerton has dissipated because Urbanchek is retiring or so he said in an interview. I guess they are all finding new places to go. How about Mclean? He would probably fit in well to that group also.Anyone else in that group?
